L’Eixample
Turn into a local for some days and take a stroll in your new neighbourhood!

The neighborhood of L'Eixample is the jewel of modernist Barcelona. A museum that literally unfolds onto the street. Its characteristic grid-like structure was envisioned at the end of the XIX century by the Ildefons Cerdà urban plan.

On Passeig de Gràcia, its main avenue, you will find Barcelona’s and Europe’s most chic boutiques. Nontheless, L'Eixample is much more than just high-fashion shopping. Pretty much all of Barcelona’s activity takes place in its blocks and chamfered corners: art galleries, museums, bookstores, cafes and hidden corners are within your reach. Let yourself get carried away in an unforgettable journey of surprises!

RECOMMENDED SITESEEING

L'Eixample is the most sophisticated and fascinating neighbourhood in Barcelona. Many of the majestic buildings that adorn its streets and boulevards were designed by Antoni Gaudí, Josep Puig i Cadafalch and Lluís Domènech i Muntaner, the great masters of Catalan modernism. Several of them have been declared Unesco World Heritage Sites. All of them narrate the story of the Barcelonese bourgeoisie in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. During your walk, do not forget to raise your head and look up at the wonderful modernist facades and their fancy ornaments!

Fundació Tàpies

Art foundation dedicated to the work of Antoni Tàpies, one of the major European exponents of abstract art. It is worth paying a visit, even if it is to solely admire the building’s exterior. Designed by modernist architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, it served originally as the venue of the publishing house Montaner y Simón.
